Fall Trail Mix

Fall trail mix is made with apple pie granola, a mixture of nuts, pumpkin seeds, and dried fruit. Has a nice, autumn flavor!

As stated in my apple pie granola post, I’m psyched for fall. Apple recipes, pumpkin recipes, and Halloween decorations are all I’ve got on my brain.

So when Nuts.com asked if I wanted to write a post for a contest, I knew what I wanted to make. I already have a little experience with Nuts.com and their products, so I was pretty excited. (And isn’t it fun when a company you like just contacts you out of the blue?)

Step 01: Mix it all together. That’s it. Toss it in a bowl and use a spoon to stir it until you’re happy.

I bought honey roasted peanuts as well, but wound up snacking on them while I was making the granola. The butter toffee works better, anyway.

I added the butterscotch chips because I wanted to give it a “candy apple” taste. I had bought a bunch of caramels and chopped them up, but it was way too sticky. I don’t know about you, but I like foods that aren’t going to leave a bunch of residue on my hands. 

I love dried fruit in my trail mix, but I don’t particularly care for raisins. Which is where the dried cranberry came in. I actually used the reduced sugar, but you can use whatever you want.

For the pumpkin seeds, you can get the shelled kind, as well. I actually kind of like the taste of the shells, though, so I got those instead. The shells are apparently high in zinc, if that matters to you.

Aside from the granola, you don’t have to make anything. I’m sure I could have gotten more complicated, but I’m super lazy. All I need to do with this is toss it in a container and I’m good to go. This would actually make a great snack for our board gaming group. Or maybe I’ll hoard it all for my own movie night snack.

Everything here worked really well, I’m very happy with the end result.

Ingredients
  1. apple pie granola
  2. 6 oz macadamia nuts
  3. 6 oz pistachios
  4. 12 oz butterscotch chips
  5. 5 oz pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
  6. 12 oz butter toffee peanuts
  7. 5 oz dried cranberries
Instructions

    I am with you! I’m ready for all things fall. Plus I love trail mix but can’t have ones that have a lot of oats. This seems like it will work nicely. Excited to try it out. Thanks for sharing it with us.
