Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes

Cheeseburger Sloppy Joes have all the taste of a cheeseburger, but are way easier to make. Brown the meat, add the ingredients, and voila! You’re done in under 30 minutes.

I love sloppy joe’s. Probably more than a grown woman should.

Zach thinks they’re OK, but doesn’t care for the sauce, apparently. Then I ran into this Cheeseburger Salad recipe from Pioneer Woman. I put the meat on a salad and Zach’s response was, “This should be a sloppy joe.”

Um, yes. Of course it should. Why didn’t I think of that?

I know what all the purists out there are thinking. “Ugh. If you want something that tastes like a cheeseburger, why don’t you just make a cheeseburger?” Because I am super lazy and I hate molding the meat into patties.

Plus innovation doesn’t happen by sticking to tradition.

I get the feeling I’m not alone in my hatred for molding patties, though, so I’m here to share the recipe with you!

  • salt and papper, to taste
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese

Step 03: Serve on a bun with your favorite burger toppings.

Done!

This is SUCH a quick meal and is definitely going on the list of things I can make for those nights I completely forget about dinner. 😛 They are so good and they taste exactly like a cheeseburger. Zach and I were both very happy with this (and he hates mustard).

Oh, do you see that bun? That is a pretzel bun and it is fantastic! I love them because they’re much sturdier than a regular bun. I don’t have to worry about all my ingredients flopping out and making a mess, which is something that happens a lot with sloppy joes. At least in this house.

For those of you who loved my Freezer Meal Crock Pot Sloppy Joes (which I’m now calling Floppy Joes because Zach pointed out the bun makes them look floppier than these Joes), I have good news. You CAN turn this into both a freezer meal AND a slow cooker recipe.

Though, honestly, I probably wouldn’t do either of those things with this particular meal, since it’s so easy to make without dealing with freezer bags and digging out the crock pot. But if you feel it’s something you need to do, go for it.

Freezer Meal Instructions:

  • Brown the meat. Put it in a freezer bag with everything except the cheese.
  • Thaw it the night before making, heat it up on the stove, add the cheese.
  • Once the meat has been cooked, frozen, and thawed, it may not have the exact same texture as it would if you cooked and served it fresh. But it is still perfectly good to eat.

Slow Cooker Instructions:

  • Brown the meat. Put it in a small crock pot with everything except the cheese.
  • Let it cook for 2 hours or until it starts bubbling a little. Turn off the slow cooker and add the cheese.

Enjoy!

What’s your favorite “I forgot about dinner!” meal?

lol I know what you mean. I was a little skeptical when I found Pioneer Woman’s recipe, but after we tried that I just knew it had to become a sandwich. 😛 Hope you like them!

You and Zach seem to have similar opinions on sloppy joes. He also doesn’t like how messy it is and how the buns soak up the sauce and get all floppy. 😛 This is one of his new favorite things, though, so I bet you’ll love it, too! 😀
